If you think all golf courses look and feel the same, think again! Venturing outside of your own golf course is a great way to establish a golfer network, build up your performance in new environments, and participate in new tournaments. Why not try a new course? Who knows — you may even end up liking it more than your regular go-to spot.
As a PGA golfer, I’ve had the privilege of playing at some of the world’s best golf courses, and not all courses are created equal! Weather, course layout, and club resources vary from location to location, and all of these factors impact the way you approach your golf game. Luckily for you, I’ve narrowed down some of my favorite courses across the country so you can plan your next golf trip accordingly. Tune in regularly to my new FGSL On-the-Go series to learn about new courses that you should try the next time you are golfing on location. Let’s start with some extra personal favorites.

2020 will mark this club’s 67th consecutive year of tournament golf, which means they’ve had their fare share of famous golf visitors, including Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, and Jack Nicklaus. Perhaps you’re up next! Having hosted the PGA championship three times, this club boasts 54 high-class holes which have earned the club prime spots on international golf course and golf retreat countdowns.
While the club has plenty of accolades to prove its excellence–such as the National Golf Course Owners Association Golf Course Excellence Jemsek Award–perhaps the beauty and impressive layout of the course can also speak for itself.

41,000 sq. ft. all-grass practice tee. 22,000 sq. ft. private practice area for members. 1 beautiful course with a great natural environment to play a phenomenal game of golf. Voted Top 50 in the US for customer service for two years in a row, this course is a great spot for a nurturing, quality golf experience with helpful resources and even better people. Often considered one of Southwest Florida’s best-kept secrets, this course provides an intimate and luxurious golf experience from the course to the golf shop to the surrounding quaint community of Riverwood.
The most impressive aspect of this course is the strategic and thoughtful way they have designed their space around the natural environment to indulge in the naturally occurring challenges that the course poses in your golf game. Read from their website below:
“The front nine of this Gene Bates designed, par 72 Championship course flows through heavily wooded terrain, rich in stands of natural pine.
The back nine meanders amid salt marsh and wetlands. Surrounded by lush landscaping and native vegetation, each hole is a challenge, taking advantage of its natural setting.”
