We’re on the road again for the FGSL On-the-Go series! Let’s check out another two of my favorite golf courses to visit when I’m closer to home in New York. Because I live in NYC, you may not think that I have too many country clubs or courses in my vicinity for luxury and practice. Luckily, New York isn’t all just skyscrapers and high-rise buildings. There are plenty of beautiful courses with exquisite amenities and even better views just across the way.
If you are NYC-based like I am, here are some great courses to visit when you need some new scenery but don’t have time for a full-length trip. Hop in, we’re going for a drive!

While it may be a bit far in advance, it is a great opportunity to plan a trip to Westchester for the summer of 2021! This country club will be hosting the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship from August 2nd to August 8th for the second time in history. In the meantime, you can explore the South Course which received an upgrade in 2000. Now the course boasts “one of the best sets of Par 3’s (five in total) of any course in the Metropolitan area.” It’s a versatile course for golfers of different styles, levels, and backgrounds!
The West Course has a rich history of hosting world-class competitions – including 42 PGA events – and an even richer terrain. Rolling hills, rocky borders, forest trees — all of which are beautiful to look at, but quite challenging to navigate during game play.
When not playing on the course, you can relax by a beach along the Long Island Sound or dine in one of your four luxury dining options. As a New Yorker, it is always nice to find a vacation in my own state.

“Minutes from Midtown… yet worlds apart.”
Manhattan Woods is one of those gems that I am happy to have found so close to home — 35 minutes from Midtown to be exact! It’s nice to know that wetlands and green hills do exist beyond the office buildings and blinding lights of the city. But don’t worry, you still have a beautiful view of the New York City skyline from multiple parts of the course. Water is directly in play for four holes, so prepare for a challenge across multiple terrains!
This location also offers a golf academy with some of the best young golf instructors, according to Golf Digest. Private instruction, group instruction, and a junior program for your kids. There’s no reason why everyone in the family can’t learn and enjoy a trip to Manhattan Woods for the weekend.
See you on-the-go, but not too far from home!
