In over twenty years of golf instruction, I’ve had the opportunity to assist people of all ages with learning and mastering the sport. I particularly enjoy working with young golfers because I truly believe that fitness, balanced nutrition, and athletic skill are fundamental tenets of life. These three pillars are particularly crucial for children and adolescents learning how to lead healthy lifestyles in the future.

Junior Golfers

My involvement in junior golf began in 2000 when I served as both the Boys and Girls Varsity Golf Coach at The Bronx High School of Science. Soon after, I was offered a job as a coach for The First Tee of Metropolitan New York. In 2003, I became the Program Director followed by 10 years as the PGA Director of Instruction. Being part of The First Tee taught me a lot about junior development and how young people learn. We developed a large following and I saw that there was an opportunity to create additional programs for these juniors. I was able to offer private instruction as well as small group classes (which eventually became The Fit for Golf Set for Life Junior Academy, still going strong 15 years later!). Between the years 2005 and 2015, I ran three outstanding summer golf schools for juniors of various age groups and abilities. The Half-Day School was Exclusively for younger participants aged 7-9 years old, this school focused on basic golf skills, games and fun activities. Participants also played three holes of golf in a modified scramble format. The Beginner/intermediate school was for 9 year olds and up and featured golf and fitness instruction in addition to playing 9 holes of golf. The advanced school included intensive golf instruction as well as fitness classes with a performance coach. The juniors in this group also received nutrition education and played 18 holes of golf. The three schools were extremely popular and and averaged 50 juniors a day for 9 weeks.

High School & College Golfers

At a higher level, many of my students have won (or placed in the top ten) in junior tournaments including: U.S. Kids, MET PGA, AJGA, IJGA and Hurricane golf tours. I have also coached over 100 students who have gone on to play at twenty different high schools in New York City and Westchester County. These students have been winners of 5 individual New York City Champion titles as well as runner -ups and multiple team titles. On the collegiate level, my students have played for Division 1, 2 , and 3 schools: University of Michigan, University of Vermont, Colgate University, SUNY Purchase, Nyack College, Oswego State.

Incorporating Fitness & Nutrition

In addition to golf instruction, I’ve incorporated fitness and nutrition into my teaching since 2005. It wouldn’t be the Fit for Golf – Set for Life way without these two components, too! This was the year that I incorporated yoga for golfers. I worked with fitness experts to provide specific routines for juniors focusing on balance, speed, agility, and strength. Five years later, I started teaching my students about balanced nutrition. I held cooking demonstrations and showed them how to make smoothies and keep food journals. Among many other topics, I emphasized the unhealthy characteristics of sugar, the importance of fruits and veggies, and how/why to avoid fast food.
